Up until very recently midwifery in Nova Scotia has been a private service provided outside of the government-funded health system.
As of April 1st 2009, four Halifax midwives (two from NS Community Midwives) have been hired by the IWK.
On the South Shore two midwives have been hired (one from NS Community Midwives).
Midwifery services in the province will now be free (covered under MSI).
Midwives for Halifax and surrounding areascan be contacted by writing an email to
midwifery@iwk.nshealth.ca
We will be back in touch with you in the next couple of weeks.
Please have a look at the
IWK webpages on Midwifery.
Some of your questions may get answered there.
